Marle place u16’s got a well deserved win in their first home game of the season against cuckfield cosmos united who in the past, have been a bit of a bogie team for us.

The team started well, keeping hold of the ball and having a number well worked attacks but nothing that threatened the goal we needed. That changed after 9 minutes, ollie picking up the ball in the middle of the opposition half and threading an excellent ball through to lucas. His first effort was saved by the keeper but he kept his composure and slotted the rebound.

We continued to dominate the game with three more goals before half time. The first coming from ollie with a well taken low drive from the edge of the area. The next after lucas and ollie put the cuckfield defense under pressure as they tried to play out from the back, ollie latching onto a loose pass by the keeper to score. Then with one minute left in the half Taylor produced a great volley at the far post to to make it 4-0.

Second half got very scrappy with a number of injuries to the opposition breaking the flow of the game. Marle place received two very dubious bookings and I noted this in my match report to the league. However, we were still able to add two more goals. The first from Austin, which I have to admit I didn’t see, so it must have been a screamer. Then lucas finished it off with a deflected strike to get his second of the game.

We made a number of changes in the second half and I’m sure this impacted the teams performance but we wanted to make sure everyone got minutes on the pitch. One of the final acts was Archie making an excellent save to deny cuckfield a goal and keep our well deserved clean sheet.

Well done all, just the game we needed before a two week break.
